The thing I don't understand is the relative's comment that "they won't
let
us go down and get them." Who is supposed to be stopping them?
The thing that I don't understand is why no one is pointing out the obscene
difference between how this accident has been handled versus how JFK, Jr.'s
accident was handled. How many millions were spent by the US government to
pull up that wreck? There was no question at the time that it was a
recovery mission, not a rescue mission.
Same deal here, except now the various agencies are saying "we aren't
authorized", or "we don't have the money". Never mind the victims are
military veterans, at least as deserving of the use of taxpayer money to
recover their plane and bodies. As likely as it is that it was simply poor
pilot judgment that caused this accident, that's no different than the other
accident, IMHO.
Now, I think it was silly that the government got involved with the recovery
effort for JFK, Jr.'s accident, but that's the choice they made. They set
the precedent, but now not only are they not going to follow that precedent,
no one even seems to be making the connection.
Frankly, if nothing else, I'm surprised no one is playing the environmental
card. Here in the Pacific Northwest, you'd think that would be the route to
instant approval and funding.
