What I can tell you is that the place has a LOT of urban sprawl so even
when you are in "small" towns 30-40 miles from downtown Houston, you
have quite a bit of urbanization and traffic. Its quite common for
people to live that far out, or more, then drive into downtown Houston.
Once again, lots of sprawl. The only way you know you arent in Houston
is passing a city limit sign.

Good schools would be Kingwood (which is now officially part of the City
of Houston but the school district is separate and independent from
Houston ISD), and about 5 NE of IAH. Spring, Klein and Woodlands ISD are
all pretty good, but large, districts, that encompass the urbanized FM
1960 corridor (well, Woodlands is more like 10 miles north, and truly is
a "city" in its own (but unincorporated).

If you HAVE to have "country", there were a bunch of Continental
captains who were building in the woods between Tomball and Conroe
(which is technically "Montgomery") in some large acreage subdivisions.
I cant say a bunch about Conroe's schools, but its far out enough to be
a town of its own. If you are to go east of IAH instead of north, small
towns include Huffman and Crosby (both unincorporated, both with smaller
school districts and I cant make any comments either way on their quality)

I agree with everything you said. I went to school in The Woodlands. My
father now lives in one of the areas that you spoke of, in Conroe off of
1488. It's a nice area. Some have ranches and estates. David Wayne
Hooks (DWH) airport is fairly close and is pretty nice. IIRC, it's one of
the busiest privately owned airports around.
