Is it really worth the effort of pulling one out? Is it at all reuseable?
Yes. Hose everything down ASAP. Then take it apart at your leisure and hose it down
some more. Send the engine and prop out for major. Replace all the instruments. There
are some other items.
About 10 years ago, a Birddog went down just off the Jersey shore. He was towing a
banner, lost a bit of power, and couldn't ditch the banner. When the banner hit the
sea, it sorta slapped the Birddog down. They dragged it out, the insurance company
totalled it, and Pete Kupper got the rebuild contract. I saw it at Kupper. They had
to replace the wings, the gauges, and all the avionics, plus send the engine and prop
out (Mattituck redid the engine). It was worth it.
