It's Latin. The phrase "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" is most commonly
associated with the Catholic Mass "Confiteor," a prayer of confession said near the beginning
of the Mass.

The commonly used English version of the passage is :

Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. I beseech the Blessed Mary
ever Virgin, ...

The truly penitent beat their breast three times during the "mea culpa" part.
