WP, be careful how you "read the regs"... if you were "denied" an FAA
Medical, you do not automatically qualify for Sport Pilot... i.e, you
applied for a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class medical and was denied by FAAOKC or any
designated Aviation Medical Examiner who sent the paper work to OKC.
If you allowed a medical to expire, and did not apply for renewal, because
you knew you could not pass a medical, then you may be entitled to exercise
the sport pilot option with a "light sport aircraft".
There is a paragraph in the Sport Pilot regulations that states that those
that have been denied a medical do not qualify. The "key" is, "does the FAA
have a denied medical application on file".
