A cargo jet departing Chicago's O'Hare International Airport experienced
engine trouble late Wednesday and may have dropped one of its engines into
Lake Michigan, authorities said.
Last week at the AOPA convention, Rod Machado recounted his story of
an engine failure on takeoff in a 152 because the carburetor had
fallen off the engine. The aircraft had just come out of maintenance,
and the mechanic had failed to install the four nuts that secure the
carburetor to the engine. I wonder if something similar happened
in this case.
You can bet old "Bob" won't dig around in his pocket and find the missing nuts in
this case. :-)
