I heard that David Jason (a well known actor in the
UK) flies/flew out of Dunstable.

I do not know where you want to draw the line on 'celeb'
but here goes.
While not a household name in the general public, Steve
Morse, who is
arguably the best guitar player on the planet, has
taken up soaring. He
flies a PIK-30E off of his private strip. He also
owns 3 power planes.
Morse has been the guitar player for Deep Purple since
1994, and has two
other bands, the Dixie Dregs and the Steve Morse Band.
He won the Guitar
Player Magazine reader's poll Guitarist of the year
5 years in a row so they
made him ineligible for life (to give someone else
a chance for a change).
For those who are not familiar with his music, I suggest
you start with High
Tension Wires which was done in the mid 1980s while
he was pilot for a
commuter airlines. This guy has a tremendous body
of work but is relatively
unknown as most of the music is instrumental and therefore
gets virtually no
airplay. His albums are also very hard to classify
as each will have music
in a wide array of styles ranging from classical to
bluegrass to rock to
fusion. Since joining Deep Purple, replacing Richie
Blackmore, he is
finally finding a broader audience. Check out:

Well, there was also John Denver, Hugh Downs, broadcaster
on 60 Minutes, and, I'm told, Mel Torm'e, the velvet
fog singer of the 40s and 50s and 60s and 70s and hanger-on
into the 80s and 90s.
This thread has been done already.
