Just a thought but wouldn't this add to the interest
level which seems to be low? I didn't really say that!

Nobody got interested in Voyager, other than aviation enthusiasts,
until it looked like it would run out of gas. Reason for crisis- fuel
gages.

That is not my recollection at all.

1) Everybody I knew seemed to be excited about it.

2) There was no World Wide Web, instead it was the radio and TV
news and in the daily papers.

3) Shortly befor landing it was reported that because Voyager was
ahead of schedule it could 'orbit' for up to two days if the
winds were too high for a safe landing.

4) Shortly after landing the fuel tanks were drained and it was
announced that Voyager landed with only 15 minutes of fuel
to spare. This was attributed to greater drag resulting from
the wingtip(s) being scraped during takeoff.

5) I also recall that it was stated that, to save weight,
Voyager had no fuel gagues.
