You would think it would work, but in most cases it won't.
They often won't go on, or if they do, they jam. Turning
them down is also a real pain.
And in the worst case, the jamming causes the ball to loosen during
turns (US hitches used a bolted on ball, unlike the European hitches
I've seen).
