Apparently it had been hoped that Bax's condition would improve enough to
allow him to resume writing his column, and by the time it became clear
that wasn't going to happen he wasn't able to write a farewell. A shame,
my two favorite items in "Flying" were "Bax Seat" and Len Morgan's
"Vectors".

I just had a thought. (No, it's not my first.) Perhaps you were thinking
of Len Morgan's last "Vectors" column? He did write a fairly poignant
column as his final "sign off", it appeared in the October 1999 issue.
