Default Weekend Highlights

I didn't expect things to work out quite as they did. I was pleasantly
surprised, several times. I flew back to Houston from Amarillo on
Friday, over summer-like skies. The cus were popping and cloudbase was
about 10,000 AGL. That was a beautiful sight. I got home and found out
that we were in fact heading back to Fort Worth because my son, Aaron,
was unexpectedly there... something about a girl... and we wouldn't get
to see him otherwise.

SSA Convention, here I come. As expected, we got upstaged by the girl,
and only got to see him for about 3 hours, but that was worth the
drive. An afternoon to kill, and the glider convention in town, I'm all
set. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the Sisu there. I hadn't
seen one one in many years. They are so amazing for their time. That
particular one holds many memories for me. I have a long history with
these ships. I think Dick Schreder was inspired by Len Neimi and this
sailplane.

I saw many old friends there from TSA and SCOH. I had an enjoyable
conversation with Steve Leonard. I got to see my old friend Charlie
Dobkins, who was the first builder of some of the HP-14T known as
N4088C. I chose that number in honor of him and the serial #88.
Unfortunately, I had to leave soon after I got there, but I did get to
bore the socks off a few folks with my ancient Sisu history...

All pretty good, considering I was about to sleep the weekend away in
Houston, after a 2 week road trip... I'll never catch up. We move next
week.
