That is the first bad advice you have given.

It is interesting to note that the cog belt is the drive of choice, for
manufacturers of V-6 and V-8 redrives manufactured today. Perhaps they know
something that you don't?

Belts are lasting 200 hours with no sign of wear, BTW.
