Memorial Day Poem #2, Untitled
The flag lay in the dark damp corner
It once was folded smartly, evenly
Over a tear stained casket
It was folded smartly, evenly
Wife, mother shed tears on fresh dirt
It was folded smartly, evenly
The Flag was lovingly passed
It was folded smartly, evenly
Years later 241 flags covered them
they were laid smartly, evenly
241 times taps was played as the flags
were laid smartly, evenly
The flag came down the old pole
it was folded smartly, evenly
The Marines responded Semper Fi
it was folded smartly, evenly
The tear welled in the Corporals eye
as the flag was folded smartly, evenly
We will never forget your sacrifice
as the flag was folded smartly, evenly
Years later 7000 flags covered them
they were laid smartly, evenly
7000 times taps was played as the Flags
were laid smartly, evenly
The Flag lay in the dark damp corner
It was once folded smartly, evenly
Over a tear stained casket
And they remembered the sacrifice.
