Default Interesting tale from WWII

then there's this -

http://www.uss-bennington.org/phz-nowing-f15.html

about the F-15 that lost it's entire right wing in a mid air - and
landed safely at 290 knots.

There are also a number of stories of 707's that lost large wing
sections and made it. Pan Am 843 had a and engine explode, which
ignited a fuel tank, which burned off 28 feet of wing. But it landed
safely.
