Memorial Day Poem #36, "Brave Up My Friend"
BRAVE UP MY FRIEND
Brave up my friend, its a good day to die.
These are the words that have sustained me for decades.
No matter how bad the days became,
No matter how long the night terrors reigned
These were the words repeated to myself,
The manna that fed my crippled mind.
Brave up my friend, its a good day to die.
These are the words that calmed the tumult,
The valium that came from deep inside.
When the well was empty and courage had fled
These are the words that kept my head.
