The .45 Long Colt is a great cartridge, if you hand-load. Not so much
available for it commercially. A friend had a Ruger 445 ultr-light in
..45LC as a carry gun. Probably get better ballistic results than my
..44 special if you hand-load for it (but if I hand-loaded for mine, I
could probably match it).

And moon or half-moon clips aren't a bad thing; think of them as cheap
speed-loaders that are easier to manipulate (don't have to unlock and
remove).
