Air Force FB-22 Bomber Concept - CRS
Let's think about this. If you can pinpoint a target, you don't need to
'ARC Light' it. OTH, if you want to carpet bomb, yeah, get out the B1
and B52. But a 250# Mk81 equipped with a GPS package could be lofted
from high mach and high altitude outside all but the long-range SAM
Arcs. Don't know how many of those could fit in the 22's bays but say
it's four - now with supercruise aided by inflight refueling we're
talking about a less than 24 hour response anywhere on the globe. Say
one KC10 plus 4 22s. The other 'quick reaction response' would be
through the use of 'conventional warhead' ICBMs. Unless a USN CV is
within range. Oh, yeah, Google Earth for targeting; all that's needed
is known 'truth' references near the proposed target for precise
lat-long info.
