Thanks to all of you who get the field in shape for those of us that fly
in a few days before and for those who just come for the show! I know
there are folks who start working in March way before the official slave
(I mean volunteer) labor show up in June. The EAA does provide digs and
food for those who work and it makes it a wonderful place for all of us.
Thanks again for your hard work (and tell Joe I'll see him later in July!)
There was a work party from NW Illinois, one from the UP of Michigan, some
people came in from Ohio, and then there were the early-bird campers. Some
campers volunteer and stay free. It's their hobby and their recreation - I
guess. Wonderful folks.
I think the (nice) Volunteer Bunkhouse had 20+ people in it at any one time.
We had a quiet group for our two nights ...snoring wise. Bring earplugs -
just in case! Men and women shared the bunkhouse. There were a number of
husband and wife teams.
We were next door to a red shower building. Water temp was perfect.
My "boss" was Will - the Sign Guy. Super guy!! Retired. He lives around
town. He's been doing the signs for 15 years. He's been working with OSH
since 1970.
Breakfast was 7am - 8am
Lunch 12 noon - 1pm
Dinner 5pm - 6pm
The Kitchen Krew was fantastic! So were the refreshment wagon people. Let's
not forget the bunkhouse beer and chip fairies. :-)
It's fun driving all over the empty grounds each morning - in the 1976(?)
Chevy 3/4 ton flatbed. We had keys to most of the buildings (where the signs
SHOULD STILL BE from when they were taken down last year. We never did find
a couple of signs. g)
Almost forgot, Joe was told to put his plane in one of the empty buildings
when it looked like rain. He did and was glad - it really stormed for about
30 minutes, Saturday evening.
Final note: Forgot the digital camera. Doh!
