"UltraJohn" wrote in message

Lischer had contacted the airport's tower during his approach and
"everything was fine," Bishop said.
That must have been an interesting conversation, OC does not have a
control tower!
The reported added the statement about the tower.
To a reporter, just like the rest of the general public, anybody you talk
to on the radio is "the tower". You can be a FL390 in the middle of the
Atlantic, and they'll still write that you're talking to "the tower".
Read "Airframe" by Michael Chricton to see what a ******** a writer can
make of air-to-ground radio conversations, even a writer who made his
reputation on the quality of his research. I saved on of his biggest
howlers as a sig file:
"Tower zero one request clearance for takeoff."
"Cleared runway three contact ground point six three when off the runway."
