I'm not a bush pilot, but, I understand that they hydroplane to slow down before
landing on a sand bar.

Was that a foolhardy stunt, or at that speed is the water hard enough
that with those huge tires an inadvertently hard touch would bounce
the plane rather than digging in or creating enough drag to change the
angle of attack and nosing the plane into the water?
