our B40 has a built in averager, only displayed when the button is
depressed..
would not that voltage be reported to the external averager for display?
Granted I think the external averager is digital display

The logic person to contact is Mike Borgelt, you can get his email address
from his web site. I've always found him to be quite helpful with
questions like this. The signal from the B40 is analog, I believe it
swings +/- 1V (+/- 10 kts or 5 m/s) from a 2.5V reference. I believe the
same signal is used for the repeater, so the averaging is likely being
done by a separate circuit in the external unit...
