Unlikely. I think it's far more likely they simply cannot admit anything. We
live in a society in which it has become impossible to admit to any
imperfection. To say "we found the problem, and we have fixed it" may be
reassuring to the flying public, but to the lawyers it is an admission that
they knowingly allowed hundreds of planes to continue flying with a known -
albeit one-in-a-million risk of a serious incident.
