sporting goods catalogs, for aiding in selecting an off airport landing
site at night? The price has been coming down, and the quality has been
coming up.

I wonder if they would be helpful enough to consider buying for a private
pilot?

I own a pair of night vision goggles, maybe I'll take an instructor with me
sometime and try it out for grins.
