Why is it funny? Because Tracy is, or was, the only airport I know that
LOCKS and SHUTS DOWN their card activated fueling at night, making them
practically useless for a fuel stop waypoint.
I stopped overnight at Oceanside airport near LA once in the early AM
only to find the fuel pump didn't work. I had planned to overnight
there because of the low fuel price. Since I was heading down into
Mexico (straight to Loreto) I needed a full 7 hours on board and ended
up having to go next door and paying just over double for the gas. When
I called the airport manager the next week he just said "oh, it rained
that night, the fuel pump always shuts off when it rains". What planet
are we on?
In southern California, it's quite common to have failures
and malfunctions when the annual rain arrives. It's also
common to live with the failure/malfunction rather than go
to the trouble/expense of finding and correcting the
problem.
