Reminds me of a story I heard while serving with the 552 AEW&C Wing at
McClellan AFB. One of the birds (EC-121) was on patrol east of Saigon
vectoring fighters to intercept MIGs. One of their preferrences was to
fly in clean air (no clouds). Cloud cover was below 2000ft. They
carefully decended thru 2000ft into clean air, and were on a perfect
approach to a carrier deck. I was told they were looking up into the
tower as they passed (after some quick maneuvering)
