And?

I'm wondering if the warlord Keke will put up a fight against the
Aussies.

Ah. Ok. From the little bit I saw of him on the news last night I'd say
he's nut's enough to try just about anything. But then again 1/2 of what
you see/read in the news is bull and the other 1/2's just sh...

No doubt the rules of engagement will include the ability to fire back
if fired upon.

The operation is supposed to restore order and cut off gun
running to nearby Papau New Guinea. Most of the international force
are police, medical, and communications units with Australia the only
real fighting force. It will be interesting to see what developes.
Australia is seeking a more "active" military role in both regional
and world conflicts. We Americans don't realize what a huge transition
this is from a mainly defensive force to one that can now take
offensive action.

It is a change of stance for sure, but hardly huge.

The Aussies are also reconsidering nuclear weapons
and strategic delivery systems in light of the percieved future war in
Asia involving the US vs N Korea and/or China.

I have serious doubts about these reports about us seeking nuclear
weapons. I would be very surprised indeed if there is any truth in them
at all.

That's just "too close for comfort" to Oz...

Which is why we are so friendly toward the US. We expect you guys to
bail us out. :-)

not to mention the Al Qaida cells operating
nearby and the memory of the Bali attack.

I think this is the biggest threat we face now and into the foreseeable
future. In addition to the threats from the region there is an ever
increasing local islamic community, most of who are law abiding and
happy to be here, but it only takes a handful of fanatics...
