Question for everyone, and it's a long shot, but I'll try
anyway!
I just happen to have Google Earth fired up and was looking at
my hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. I scrolled up a bit north of my
parent's place, and happened to notice an airstrip slightly south of
Standing Bear Lake. It currently has X's on the runway. When I lived
there, I really didn't care about what was around there, because I
wasn't into aviation at the time. But now that I am, I am wondering
what this field is, or was.
The lat/lon of this field is 31.18'37.27N / 96.07'42.00W. I
don't see this depicted on the current Omaha sectional, and I currently
don't have any access to any older charts. This also isn't listed
anywhere on the Abandoned/Little-Known Airfields site either. Does
anyone have any idea on what this field is/was, or know how I could go
about trying to identify this field?
Your latitude is off by about 600 miles.
I have Lincoln sectional aeronautical charts from 1941, 1943, 1955, 1959,
and 1968. No airfield appears on any of those charts at that location. I
have Omaha sectional charts from 1971, 1973, 1978, 1985, and 2006. No
airfield on any of those either, the lake first appears on the 1978
sectional.
