They have twin vertical stabs because supersonic airplanes need lots of
vertical surface area, especially if the vertical surface is not as far back
as you might like to put it. with two engines mounted way back and all
their stuff it is hard to mount the vertical stabs further back. The easy
way to get it is to have two tails.
