Do any of you guys know of a trailer available for a Grob 103?
Looking for used if possible.
Ditto. LVVSA is also in need of a G103 trailer.
Open or clamshell?
Bob K.
Closed trailer is going to be the one I am looking for.
This winter I designed a clamshell trailer for a friend's ASK21, and
got all ready to order steel and start construction. However, he found
a good deal on a Komet G103 trailer and we've been adapting that
instead.
Building a glider trailer chassis is a relatively easy process.
Building a light yet effective clamshell top is a bit more
troublesome.
But kitting the trailer out with fittings and dollies that fit the
glider well, are light yet robust and easy to use, that's the hard
part. You can spend weeks of spare time getting all that stuff
functional.
In particular, the fuselage dolly for a non-retract 2-seater can be a
real bear to make work well. Because the wheel is fixed, the dolly has
to be fairly tall to keep the wheel off the deck. Because the glider
is so heavy, the dolly really needs a built-in jack to lift the
fuselage to clearance height.
Stuff like that is why a good Cobra trailer, factory fitted for your
glider, rightfully commands five figures USD.
Thanks, Bob K.
