Jay... what really chokes you up is watching gliders ... sail planes.. land
on that grass at the base of the monument in 2003.. the final leg of a cross
country glider race..
As a well known bumper sticker says on the back of a glider trailer..
Thank you Wilbur and Orville..

If you ever get a chance to fly there, take it -- for me it was like
visiting the Sistine Chapel or Mecca -- almost a religious experience.
Here's one of us at the Howard's Pub "Welcome to Ocracoke" sign:
(Many thanks to those who recommended this great place to stop!)

Here's a short video of the pathetically broken Cirrus on the side of
the runway at Ocracoke Island: (It hurts to look at it!)

Completely by accident, we flew to the beach that has been rated "2nd
Best in the World" by Conde Nast, right behind Waikiki Beach.
Finally, if you're really bored, you can see a whle bunch more pix and
videos from this flight to West Virginia, North & South Carolina,
Alabama, Tennessee, and Missouri he

It was six days off, four days of flying, 17 hours in the air, 2008
miles -- all following the sun.
Enjoy!
