Thanks! I was unaware that there even were two C17s here. What's the
whole story on the nosewheel parts? Damaged in landing?

from EAA news release Saturday, 29 July...

A C-17 picnic
The C-17 crew was hard at work yesterday in AeroShell Square, repairing
the nose landing gear. They'd been working for many hours, skipping
meals in order to get this important task completed.
Some AirVenture attendees heard about their situation and decided to
lend a hand. They returned to their campsite in Camp Scholler, grilled
up a bunch of burgers with all the fixin's, and returned to the
flightline with an Oshkosh feast for the hungry mechanics.
These good Samaritans were rewarded with a special tour of the inside of
the big Air Force plane.
That's the kind of thing that happens at AirVenture.

The second C-17 arrived after the Mustang crash, landed R09 and was
parked at the northeast ramp by the terminal. One theory for the
reopening of R27 was to allow the C-17 to depart Friday night.

Ahh, so they were there together for a few hours. FWIW, the other C17
still hadn't left Oshkosh as of 1 PM CST today--it was parked near the
former passenger terminal too after Sunday's show.
