Two involved in investigation have S.C. ties

Two veteran Air Force commanders with close ties to South Carolina are
playing key roles in the investigation of sexual assault charges at
the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Gen. John Jumper, the Air Force chief of staff who ordered the inquiry
into the allegations, is a former commander of the 9th Air Force and
the U.S. Central Command Air Forces, each headquartered at Shaw.

He served at the Sumter base from 1994 to 1996.

In June, Jumper nominated another Shaw alum, Lt. Gen. John Rosa, as
the current head of the Air Force Academy.

Rosa is former commander of Shaw's 20th Fighter Wing, a position that
also made him the base commander.

Rosa, a Citadel grad, is in charge of cleaning up the academy's
reputation. Rosa was at Shaw from 1995 to 1997.
