In this photo of the A380 you can see under the wings easily, what are the
little pods (there is either 8 or 10 of them) that are on each wings? I have
seen them on all airliners that I recall but what exactly are they? Do they
have to use them to house all the flap components (my main guess) or do they
have some sort of slow flight advantage?

I believe that they are the shrouds that cover the flap extension
tracks.
