Very interesting picture (apart from the superlative quality). P-51 FD553
(NA-91), RAF designation Mustang 1A, was part of a batch of 150 built for
RAF service, FD418-FD567. It carries strange hybrid markings, the fin flash
looks wrong for the period and of course it still carries the white fuselage
star. The nearer aircraft looks to be from the same batch, and the
camouflage colours look like a factory-applied approximation of Dark Green
and Dark Earth, although this could be the result of the photographic
emulsion.

Also, is that one of the cannon-equipped Mustangs in the centre? Is that
matt black, or more likely dark green. Any ideas?

Looked to me like they were all equipped with the 4 x 20mm.
