Default Ugly Airplanes, pt 5 - japan - nal asuka.jpg (1/1)

This is a YC-14. They were first flown in August of 1976. It was a very
short lived project.
However, by the time the YC-14 was ready for production, military priorities
had changed. The Air Force decided it needed a larger transport that would
fly to standard, conventional airfields rather than into battle zones.

In December of 1979, the Air Force formally cancelled the program for both
the YC-14 and the YC-15. As a result, the C-X (Cargo Transport
Aircraft-Experimental), or the C-17 was the next project on the table that
was led to be successful.
