'Given that these actions are in clear violation of the law, the
office is left with little choice,' said Steve Parton, general counsel
for the Office of Insurance Regulation. 'The office has warned
American General in the past, but they have refused to change their
practices.'
American General, a subsidiary of American International Group Inc.,
has $338.2 million in annual premiums for variable annuities, group
life and annuities, variable life, credit life, credit disability, and
accident and health policies sold in Florida, OIR spokesman Ed
Domansky said.
