It depends on what the purpose of the mock-up is. I would tend to think
that it is primarily for show/ demonstration to potential
users/customers. Lockheed-Martin could of course show them computer
generated pictures of what the cockpit and displays will eventually look
like, but with a mock-up they can actually have them sitting in the
cockpit and admire the view/the look and feel. It's also useful for
getting some feed-back from users/customers.
