How much will the Typhoon cost? I have seen some old estimates of $60
million each, is that still the accepted figure? If so, how can the
Typhoon cost $60 million each when the inferior, yet similar Rafale
costs $50 million each?

If budgets weren't bloated with first class expenses, golf trips, boys
nights out, etc. we as tax payers would probably end up paying half as much
for all military procurement!

The Typhoon is currently at $62.9 million each at phase 1 operation.
Phase 2-3 operational aircraft with a ground mission plus upgrades
will push the unit cost to between $75-80 million. The F/A-22 OTOH is
currently over $150 million each and could worsen to over $200 million
if the aircraft program is reduced any further. The last major
programs that included the C-17, F-117, B-2, and cancelled A-12 put
the percentage of actual order filled at between 0-30% of the intended
order. So much for maintaining our arsenal with the horrid F/A-22.
There is NO WAY IN HELL to replace all the F-15 aircraft alone in the
air superiority role with the F/A-22. It is NOT POSSIBLE financially.
Currently, Lockheed is offering F/A-22 Raptor airframes alone at $100
million without any support, logistics, maintenance, spare parts, at
all. The program stinks and the aircraft a huge waste of taxpayer
money.
I hope to God it gets cancelled during the next major military budget
cuts. That, and the V-22 Osprey.
