Can't say about the S-Nav but on the 302 (same manufacturer), the gear
warning sound is MUCH different than that of the normal vario.

...When we got to the ship it was
hard to communicate with the pilot because the gear warning horn was
making so much noise! So much for gear warning devices!


It's a tool, not a fool-proof system. I've heard many more stories where
a gear warning prevented a gear-up (I have one :-) ).
