plane lands on highway
First he was taking off in the direction of traffic flow. Traffic moving
probably 60-70. Take off speed probably 55-60. If he turned around he would
be taking off into traffic,Ouch. Since the owner changed the defective
cylinder I am sure he is a qualified mechanic and knew enough to test the
engine thoroughly before taking off.

If I were taking off with a questionable engine, I would have taxied down
the highway several hundred yards, then turned around and tried taking
off, giving lots of room for the engine to fail again but allow me to
land safely. You can only get lucky a couple of times.
