Volkslogger - set home point trouble
So Far these suggestions don't solve the issue. As another example I
have a 400point Turnpoint list, most of the names/codes are numbers
but the home point is 01Monro so I put in the search term 01M. the
search result is turnpoint 502 Abbeville, which is not what I'm
looking for.
I cannot figure out what the search results are even based on, how are
they sorted? why 502? and the next is 160,159,494,76
I do not see a way in SeeYou to set the homepoint directly, that would
be a nice feature.
It seems that if you upload a declaration from SeeYou it will set a
home point but that takes several steps a lot of time overall with a
lot of it being communication time.
Anyone have further suggestions?
thanks

Chris,
Do you set the home point in the SeeYou database before you upload it?
I remember that it carries over to the logger. If it doesn't, I wish
it did! ;,)
Otherwise, I agree with the other poster, search on the first letter
(or two) and then scroll. You use an example of 01CHIL, are all your
turnpoints numbered? If so, you are scrolling through them in
numerical order, not alpha order. You may want a different database
for your VL than your PDA for this reason.
Good luck, let us know if it works!

I've had a Volkslogger for 6 years now and I really am pleased with
it. There is one feature that really does not work good for me,
setting the home point.
I like to set the home point every time I upload a new turnpoint
database. This is a nice backup to have handy if my PDA dies then I
can navigate home with the volkslogger.
After I upload the new TP file, then on the device I use the menus:
FAI/Edit/info/Home-Point [enter]
Search
Search works except the results seem completely random. Let's say I
uploaded 80 points and want to search for "01chil", If I input CHI as
the search term I get "ctssing" or some other turnpoint. I then need
to scroll through the results, apparently the results are all 80
turnpoints so it does not seem that the search narrowed the list any.
This is more a problem when I upload a turnpoint file of 400+ points,
I end up having to scroll through hundreds of points to get to the one
I want. [defeating the point of searching rather than some kind of
browsing/scrolling]. Also frustrating is not knowing if I should
scoll forward or back to get to the one I want. The one you want feels
like it is just a few in the other direction of the loop and you will
have to go all the way around.
What I really do not understand is WHY does it not find the turnpoint
name even when I use some of the letters in the turnpoint name? Is it
searching fields other than the name?
Does anyone have any suggestion on how to set the home point easier?
I upload with SeeYou. Maybe we need to nag SeeYou to add an interface
for this function.
Then after I do get the right point picked I've learned that I need to
declare a task so that it saves this homepoint otherwise the setting
is lost.
Thanks
Chris
