I saw the TV of the investigation and saw the result when the foam was fired

Perhaps a type of Carbon Fiber? Would anyone know, in simple terms, the
Leading
edge construction? Does anyone know if tiles are at the leading edge of the
wings or are they pretty much on the belly.

The shuttle accident report goes into this in detail. It is worth
looking up at the NASA site. The hottest part of the shuttle uses
a carbon-carbon material. This includes part of the nose and the
leading edge of the wings. The next hottest part uses black tiles.
THe next hottest part uses white tiles. The next hottest area uses
thermal insulation blankets. There are no tiles on the leading edge
of the wings.
