Default SSA Car Donation

Dear List ,
I don't usually post here , but I want to pass along my experience
with the SSA car donation program . I had an old Ford Explorer that I
used as an airport car and tow rig . It was in good running order
engine and transmission wise , but at 180K miles the entire brake
system needed an overhaul , plus there were a few other minor repairs
that needed attention . The body was straight but the interior looked
worse than many of the sun rotted trainer interiors that I have seen .
This and the fact that I own too many other cars caused me to lose
interest in this one .
I posted on the UT Soar group to see if someone needed a tow rig or if
any any of the local glider operations needed a field rig (We have 4
in the local area . Yea , we are lucky . ) and there were no takers so
I set about trying to donate the thing to a local charity . I called
three places that I found on billboards and the local yellow pages .
The first didn't return my call and the lady at the second place acted
put out and couldn't answer some basic questions about the donation
process . I didn't know that making a donation would be so
discouraging . Then I remembered seeing the ad in Soaring and called
them . They explained the process in detail , including the tax form .
The pick up was prompt and professional and I wouldn't hesitate to
recommend them to others or use them again .
Now , I know many of us have our favorite charities and I don't want
to suggest that anyone disregard those . I just want to pass along the
fact that the SSA program worked out very well for me .
