Is there any chance that you are thinking of "Running on Empty"? It follows
the Hitachi Masters of Soaring competition in Estrella, AZ, USA. It isn't
in Australia, but the terrain looks a bit like Australia and Ingo Renner is
the winner of the contest and has several interviews in the contest. It is
an excellent film by soaring pilot Chris Woods. You can see details and

Does anyone remember a soaring documentary movie that came out in the 80s
or early 90s that featured a soaring contest in Australia and followed
Ingo Renner among others? It might have been called "Zulu Romeo" or
something? Anyway, it was very well done, using helicopters to film
gliders in flight, etc. I'd love to get a copy of it.
