Default Region 10 South Report: Day 5

5 days in the bag. Very competitive in all classes, especially the
combined 15-18 meter class.

Today's weather was 50% great and 50% average to "@#%&@!!!". A few
landouts but 2/3rds of the contestants got home. Oh well, you can't
eat chocolate cake everyday. But 4 out of 5 as boomin'...we'll take
it.

15-18 and Standard did an AAT speed task while Sports went to the same
turnpoints as a TAT with generous cylinders. Everyone is lovin'
Brenham and are being asked what about next year. We'll assess later.
The airport and airport management have been awesome. We are blessed
to have Jack Hess as 11R's manager. We've had Army and Navy aircraft
drop in to watch; lots of spectators from the fly-in and eat crowd.
Today we did 6 demo rides and are hoping they'll decide to join our
clubs.

The cooperative effort to sponsor this--Greater Houston Soaring Assoc.
and Soaring Club of Houston--has been very successful. I think the
success of future contests may be this style: more than one club pitch
in and split the duties and revenue. The key thing is to assure not
losing money on the venture.

Check the SSA contest page for Region 10 South results for today and
overall standings.
