Now that Costello has announced that for purposes of being covered by
insurance, clubs can make their own determination for experience
requirements for tow pilots, I wonder what some of you are looking at doing.

As I understand it, the old basic insurance requirement was 500 hrs PIC and
100 hrs tailwheel to be automatically covered, or for a named pilot 200 hrs
PIC and a tailwheel endorsement (plus the usual training flights, etc..)

61.69 requires 100 PIC in category and class, so that would be the minimum.

I noticed that quite a few clubs require 500 hrs PIC and 100 hrs tailwheel.
Now that the insurance requirements have been changed, will you be keeping
these requirements as they are or will you be modifying them?

Can you provide a link to Costello's website detailing this change?

It was in last months Soaring and there are important details to
review, which are different from what was posted. For now, your policy
probably hasn't changed. But if you change, renew, or update, the
requirements seem to be just the FAA requirements.

With that said, I am interested it this as we are going to have to
deal with it soon at my club.

our club has no shortage of tow pilots, so we will keep the same
minimums and also require that the tow pilots are fully qualified in
gliders.
