* * * * Would this be King Daley's version of trashing the place on his
way out?
Since no funding has been allocated, it will be a few years before
anything happens. Midway is only 9 miles away.
Mdway has better services including rental cars at all hours, but if
one was attending a convention at McCormick (sp?) Place, landing at
Meigs and walking to the convention center was quite a treat.
General aviation airports that convenient to the downtown part a major
city are pretty rare. Was it Bader that was a short walk to the
casinos in Atlantic City (shut down, and AC is hardly 'major')?
Cleveland Lakefront is not quite within walking distance of the city.
About Meigs -- had any disinterested study been done to examine the
effect of the economic effects of Meigs on Chicago? I suppose the
intended park would benefit more people, but those are dicy tradeoffs.
What comes to mind are the HOV lanes on the Long Island (NY)
Expressway: they service very few cars, and if they were converted to
ordinary traffic lanes the LIE would gain two more lanes in each
direction. Yet, as best I know, that particular argument is not often
made.
