You proposed system, if it works, can only track head position
relative to the glider. *For a conformal display system the derived
head pointing angles need to be earth referenced and independent of
the glider attitude. Tell me a bit more about how you would plan to
implement that in a non complex system.

True. The easiest way would be a MEMS IMU integrated into the glasses
or helmet but it would need frequent updates - possibly from horizon
detection and a magnetometer.
