FYI...
The warm core high pressure aloft over the Western U.S. is finally
establishing itself just in time for the 4th of July weekend. What
this means is great to outstanding thermal soaring for the entire SW
U.S. The high center will be over Co/UT. Light E-S flow around the
high at 10,000 to 18,000msl.
It is still quite dry, however, the weekend should see plenty of cu
Owens Valley High Sierra area based 18,000-20,000msl. Do not expect
any massive amounts of Monsoon Moisture spreading in. By Sun or Monday
there probably will be some isolated high based dry thunderstorms.
So... start planning your 1000k+ badge flights O&Rs and triangles.
Marty Eiler will have a tow plain at Inyokern this weekend. The Sierra
Soaring towplane will be up at Bishop.

We've been waiting for the start of the annual monsoon here in Arizona
and today saw the first few storms over the central part of the
state. Cumulus were mostly east of my location in Scottsdale, but we
did get some virga and strong downburst winds. Dew point levels hit
40 degrees this morning and are predicted to be at monsoon levels (50
plus) over the weekend.
It's definitely coming!
