Agreed.
That looked like the best possible wheels-down landing he could have
made. It is obvious he didn't want to belly in. It is just sad that he
didn't make the runway where the emergency fire response might have
had a better chance at suppressing the fire.

Does anybody know the distance from the corn field to the runway?
...and without second guessing, whether it would have been worth the
risk to those on board to attempt to make the runway?
